Road trip!

I am writing from Annemarie Hostel in Amsterdam. Brian and I rented a car and left San Sebastian Friday afternoon for an 8 day tour of Europe. We spent all day Friday driving through France. The weather was great and the countryside is beautiful. Here is a picture I took at a rest stop:

It was a really enjoyable drive, except for the toll booths. The French highway system isn't particularly well organized, as you can see:

Our first stop was Normandy, France. We spent Friday night in a hotel in Mondeville, right outside Caen, and drove to Omaha Beach in the morning. Here are some pictures of the memorials, and you can see the beach in the background:

It was really, really cool. We also went to the memorial museum, where we saw a lot of artifacts and pictures from the battle, and watched a 30 minute film about the preparation, landing, and aftermath of D-Day. I'm charging my camera batteries now, so hopefully I'll be able to put up some good pictures of Amsterdam tonight or tomorrow. Until then, afscheid!

  1. How wonderful that you were able to see Normandy and the museums. The toll booth shot is a little unnerving.... Have a wonderful week. We look forward to your updates.
